In this blog I would like to talk about the location that I will use for my design. So I am going to design a mosque for my country which will be located in Nicosia , Yeni Kent area. However am not sure about the name of my mosque so I am just going to say mosque. Therefore, Nicosia is the capital city of Cyprus which includes lot of historical places, traditional place, old churches and lot of mosques.
My mosque will be near to border, for that reason tourist from the other side can come and visit the mosque. Also the mosque is 10 minutes far from well known touristic area in Nicosia. So people who go to mosque can visit the touristic area of Cyprus.
The old city centre, surrounded by Venetian Walls dating from 1567. The city’s historic past unfolds into a unique labyrinth of old churches and medieval buildings. Also in the old city centre there are lot of historical mosques.
Furthermore one of Nicosia’s most popular areas is Ledra Street. This cobbled area is a high street full of tradition with shops, local cafés and bars. Most of the buildings here still carry their 18th century charm. In Nicosia there are lot of cultural heritage of Cyprus through art, books and photographs.
In terms of the climate, Nicosia gets extremely hot, muggy, and dry summers. Winters are typically chilly, windy, and clear. From 11 June to 24 September, the hot season lasts 3.4 months, with an average daily high temperature of over 30°C. According to the graph from 2 December to 22 March, the cool season lasts 3.6 months, with an average daily maximum temperature below 19°C. With an average low of 6°C and high of 15°C, January is the coldest month of the year in Nicosia. Lastly my understanding of the weather will help me choose the right materials for my design.
Lastly the reason that I want to design a mosque in Nicosia Yeni Kent area, there are always old and historical mosques, I believe that a mosque that has never been built should be built in this region. Also, there is no mosque in Yeni Kent so that why I will design my mosque, and I believe that if a mosque is built in this area because that road is nearly busiest road in Nicosia and lot of Muslims will come as well as there are lot of Muslim people who lives in Nicosia I will show the demographic of Nicosia in a different blog.

Okay so it sounds like an interesting area, but does this part of the city need another mosque. For the sake of this project it is worth stating in this post why Nicosia needs your mosque and how it is demonstrating a more PROGRESSIVE design approach than the other, older mosques in Nicosia. This post is very thin and seems more like a tourist description of the area. This is a city that you have lived in and have experience of! Therefore, you need to dig deeper and think more critically about why you wanted to design this building for this area.
