Fantastic Five: Initial Sketches

In this blog I will talk about my initial sketches. As I will be designing a building my major project, I have sketched few sketches to generate my idea for my building.

So, our tutor gave us 3 themes for our project, they were Oceanic, Spiders From Mars and Renaissance. First, I picked the oceanic theme for my project, and I started to design it with pencil.

Here is my first attempts to sketch my ideas, first drew a sea wave.

After a that I drew a whale as to understand the shape of the whale so that I can use the shape of whale to my building and the other reason that I used whale shape for this sketch is they are living underwater.

After a while, I have realized that the shape of whale is nearly similar with my previous major project. Last term I did expressionism theme for my project, so I think oceanic theme is nearly same with it. Therefore I wanted to try a different technique and style for my project. So I chose a Renaissance theme for my project.

 

I find the Renaissance very interesting; I can learn different techniques and information. On the other hand, I believe that Renaissance is very important to know for my Architecture course and I am sure that this theme will improve my skills for Architecture.

First I sketched a building with Renaissance style, in Renaissance era people were doing buildings with mathematically precise ratios of height and width, symmetry, proportion and harmony.

After that I tried the Renaissance style of columns to understand the features of Renaissance architecture.

                                                

Furthermore I figure out what to design with Renaissance theme for my project, I will design a modern mosque by using Renaissance’s characteristic.

First here I drew a blue mosque that located in Istanbul, the reason that drew this mosque to understand the mosque.

To continue here is my sketches of  modern mosques.

 Last but not least, I have mixed the style of modern mosque with Renaissance architecture. I sketched the minaret of mosque with modern mosque style and I added the Renaissance’s famous arches shape to mosque. Lastly I tried to add the symmetry and proportion to my initial mosque design.

These sketches helped me a lot to understand what to drew and use for my major project, these are just a basic sketches for my project, I will show all of my development sketches and all the other researches.
