Materials research for the mosque

In this blog I am going to talk about the material that I can use for my mosque design. In Cyprus there are lots of old mosques so actually I do know what are materials are  but to be in sure I will do research about it and generate my idea.

As I am going to design my mosque in Cyprus, the weather is always hot so I will a material that is not affected with hot weather.

The first material is limestone, has always used stone as building material to create monuments and other structures throughout history. Since limestone is one of the most common building materials used for so many centuries, because the availability and easy to work on. The limestone is the most widely used durable material. The deterioration of building stone thus causes causing irreparable loss to our cultural heritage.

Also in Islamic architecture this material is very common like monuments of the mosque, palaces. Hammams, madrassas. On the other hand the limestone is a stone that is include calcium carbonate.

The second material is Marble, this material is uses for the wall and column decorations, mihrab and minber for interior. The durability of the marble is strong and tones that are using for appearance has lots of meanings. The art which is made with valuable and beautiful stones allows the building to gain more value. Even a marble masjid attracts more attention if it is done in good hands.

Furthermore that I will use for the mosque design is  White Ash. It is strong, dense, lighter in colour than oak and smooth to the touch. It takes gluing, stains and polishes well, making it popular for woodworking projects. Less prized than oak and more physically appealing than beechwood. I will use this material for the windows of the mosque. It has elastic feature with in suitability so it going to fit with my windows.

The last material that I will use it for the columns is Peristyle so what is this material, A peristyle is a covered porch that typically surrounds a garden or central courtyard. Usually arranged as a covered walkway structure supported by columns arranged in a rectangular or square formation around an open space. Ancient Rome, peristyles remained a popular design element throughout the medieval era and Renaissance and are still used today, which the same idea with theme.

My next task is work on my actual 3D DESIGN.
