Material Research For My Major Project

I would like to talk about the materials that I will use for my Major Project. When choosing the materials for the expressionist theatre structure, think twice is needed.  My theatre will be an expressionism-style building rather than a traditional theatre. This allows me to deeply express my ideas, and I will design my building with curved shapes. Choosing the right material for my project is essential.

Stainless steel is the first material I want to examine;

Every aspect of architecture, construction, and building use stainless steel. While it is not a new material, it has been used in this industry since the 1920s. There are many uses for stainless steel, it is highly visible, and in my opinion, it has a striking look.  On the other hand, it is very practical and can be used for roofing and curtain walls. It is also useful and safety-related. Due to stainless steel offers the designer a clear advantage from a resistance point of view, that is why I chose it for my project. Since I will design my theatre  with curved shapes, stainless steel is extremely versatile. Every part of a building can be made from a wide range of standard and custom shapes.

Additionally, I built my building with stainless steel framing, which helps the environment by reducing the building's carbon footprint.  Almost all of a stainless steel product can be recycled. Lastly , whatever remains after using the steel the waste of steel can be reusable to create new steel.

The second material that I will use for my theatre project is fibre reinforced concrete, so is made of a 3/4 minimum thick cementitious skin, reinforced with alkali resistant glass fibers, and attached to a metal stud frame system. Fibre reinforced concrete can be formed into ornate shapes, and its light weight provides many benefits for high rise buildings. This material is easy to bend and as I mentioned its light weight.

I would like to mention well known museum in Los Angeles that includes Reinforced ConcreteBroad Museum

On the other hand this material has mix designs come in a wide range of colors and textures. There are no standard colors. All of our mix designs are custom made to the designer's choice of color and sand blasted texture. Light sandblasted finishes leave the matrix color in place and the surface fairly smooth. A heavy sandblasted finish will expose the sand aggregates in the mix to create a completely different look. Utilizing Light and Heavy sandblasted finishes in the same panel, or project, is a common design option. Custom Form liners can make the surface of GFRC simulate other natural materials such as Brick, Wood, or Stone. Adhering Limestone, and Granite veneers to the face of GFRC is also an option.
For instance like these textures;

Last material that I will use for my Ledra Theatre is Aluminum;

Advantage of curved aluminium extrusions is their strength and durability. Aluminium is a lightweight and strong material that can withstand extreme weather conditions and heavy loads, making it ideal for use in construction. Curved aluminium extrusions are also resistant to corrosion and require little maintenance, making them a cost-effective choice for long-term use. In addition to their functional benefits, curved aluminium extrusions also offer aesthetic advantages. They can be finished with a variety of coatings and colours. Giving architects and builders the flexibility to create custom designs that match the style and look of the building. The curved shape of the extrusions especially adds a unique visual element to the building, making it stand out from other structures in the area. Finally, curved aluminium extrusions are an environmentally friendly choice for construction projects. Aluminium is a highly recyclable material that can be reused indefinitely without losing its properties. This means that using curved aluminium extrusions in construction can help to reduce waste and conserve natural resources. In conclusion, curved aluminium extrusions offer a range of benefits for construction projects, from their flexibility and strength to their aesthetic appeal and environmental friendliness. With their versatility and durability, these extrusions are becoming an increasingly popular choice for architects . For my theatre I will get  aluminium from Turkey because Turkey has lots f huge Aluminum  factories and they exporting their aluminium to China which means the quality of alumni's are good and affordable. Turkey Exports of aluminum to China was US$8.92 Million during 2022, according to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade. Also China uses the aluminums for vehicles, building and construction, electronics and consumer goods.

Last but not least, to summarise my research into materials for my Ledra Theatre, I looked first at stainless steel, then at reinforced concrete, and finally at aluminium. The materials I have looked at seem suitable for my theatre because I'm going to design the Ledra Theatre with curved shapes because expressionism is my theme, and I need to design it in a unique way. Last but not least, these materials have the ability to bend and are suitable. My next task would be to start designing my theatre using Sketch-Up software. I will definitely show every step of the building process.
